Marko One – also known as Marko Horobchik is a brush-inspired typeface for children’s literature from Cyreal Type Foundry As the name suggests(Horobchik is Ukrainian for sparrow), the initial idea was to create a typeface-companion for Marko the sparrow — a cartoon character by illustrator and type designer Zhenya Spizhovyi. Marko Horobchik is simple and smooth, has special inner tension and eye-catchy detailing. The letterforms are based on calligraphy and sketches — this is what makes Marko Horobchik lively, enchanting, and amiable. Marko will work best in medium to large sizes and captivating headlines.

Rev Josh (an artist who lives in Florida with his wife Kate and their cat Mew) made this chunky funky truetype outline bitmappy font called x51 outline. It looks like maybe a drunk robot made the font with a plasma cutter. Download it and have fun.

Basic is just that, a nice basic set of letterform designs. The font is from Indonesian vector artist/graphic designer Weknow. Basic is simple, clean and geometric sans serif typeface with a nice heavy feel. So basic it doesnt really need a lot of words to describe. Download the basic TTF.

Thunderthighs

I guess when I get into a groove I stick with it. Another hand drawn, heavy block typeface of the day. This time around it’s Thunder Thighs from S. John Ross from Cumberland Games & Diversions. This is what he had to say about it: Thunder Thighs is a goofy, friendly sort of font, reminiscent of cartoon logos and the like from the late 1970s. Those kinds of shapes, and the comforting nature of huge amounts of black ink on formerly-blank paper, made this one a particularly enjoyable one to create. I drew it with a 0.8mm Pigma and then blackened it with my trusty Sharpie; the whole process was a kind of reversion to childhood. Same principle as “comfort food,” I suppose – a valuable concept in these troubled times. Thunder Thighs is a full keyboard set with a few essential extras like smartquotes and dashes. Blockography

It’s Block Block Blockography, it’s a freeware font (not for commercial use, you know.) Created in 2011 by Måns Grebäck – a great typeface designer and logo artist (from Sweden?) – Blockography is a nice, fun, sketchy bit of fontery with slabby fun block serifs. A bit kiddish maybe, a bit fun, but pretty catchy on a poster perhaps, or something where you want a casual take on a blocky slab face. Download the TTF.

Vhia, from Netherlands based Monkey Garage of the Fonts of Chaos collective and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial license so check it out! What is Vhia? it’s a tribut to 90s sci fi – with its angular, goemoetric and futuristic characteristics. I could easily see this on an electro punk cyber techno record album sleeve. Old MONKEY GARAGE former member of the “KREW”, his course of the typography pass above all by his influence of urban art. “I am not a typographer, I do not seek to create the perfect letter. Edgar’s Papercut

Edgar’s Papercut (based on another free font that was slightly less developed called Paper Johnny) is a free font from Trier, Germany (the oldest city in germany!) based graphic design student/freelancer Lukas Bischoff. The font has a light, regular, bold and extra weight – with the extra having filled counters to add to its heavy cut out papery feel. Day Roman

The two-tiers font included in this archive, Day Roman, is a digitally redrawn version of what has come to be historically known as the “Two Line Double Pica Roman”, a typeface designed by 16th century French punchcutter FranÁois Guyot, and used in numerous books between 1535 and 1570, most notable of which are J. Steelsius’s printing of The Bible (1541) and Frisius (1551), Gillis Coppens van Diest’s printing of Erasmus (1544), Georgius (1544), Serlio (1550) and Horatius (1552), and Rotarius’s printing of Livius Brechtius (1549). The type was also used extensively by H. Dunham, and later J. Day, in London (the name Day Roman is simply a reference to J. Day having used the type). Another nice legible elegant face that’s been floating around a while with no real trackable origin – from ‘rda_dgsn’ is all i really know. Some people say it looks like Myriad Pro from Adobe a bit too much, but I like it just the same. Fox (or is it My Fox?) from the guy called Fox from England who did that ABC v2 font the other day. It’s kinda templatey and rounded but thick and straight- reminds me of some old emigre stuff that everyone used to love, Download the TTF.

ABC – version 2

ABC font typeface – version 2, from an English designer named FOX. It’s pretty simple and it’s really all that you need if you break it down to the bare essentials. What did they say, Accentuate the positive.. this font is positively geometric and an easy choice if you need a straight forward bauhausy face without a little less Bayer influence and a little more funkiness.
