Looking a bit like Gill Sans with less quirkyness, PT Sans was designed by Alexandra Korolkova, Olga Umpeleva and Vladimir Yefimov from Saratoga, California based Paratype. PT Sans is the first pan-Cyrillic public font family. Featuring 8 styles that include PT Sans regular, bold, bold italic and italic, PT Sans narrow and narrow bold, and PT Sans caption and caption bold.
PT Sans family was developed as a part of the project “Public Types of Russian Federation.” The fonts of this project have an open user license and can be freely distributed. The main aim of the project is to give possibility to the peoples of Russia to read and write in their native languages. The project is dedicated to the 300-year anniversary of the civil type invented by Peter the Great in 1708–1710 years and was realized with financial support from Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications.
Beside standard Western, Central European and Cyrillic code pages the fonts contain characters of all title languages of the Russian Federation that make them unique and a very important tool of modern digital communications.
